Sigma opened this season by introducing two new lenses - one from the Art series (Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art) and one from the Contemporary line (Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary) - as well as a converter Sigma MC-11, designed for Sony E-mount cameras.
The Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art (75-150mm on 35mm format) is aimed at owners of Canon, Nikon, and Sigma DSLR cameras. As far as its optical construction is concerned, it consists of 21 elements in 15 groups, three of which are FLD (F Low Dispersion), one is SLD (Special Low Dispersion), while one is HRI (High-Refractive Index). This standard zoom lens is equipped with a redesigned Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) (30% slimmer), a 9-blade diaphragm, whereas its filter diameter is 82mm.
As for the new Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, it is a prime lens designed to be combined with the Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds bodies. Silent and quiet autofocus, especially while video recording, is provided by a stepper motor. When it comes to optics, this fixed lens consists of 9 elements in 7 groups, one of which is aspherical, and one is double-sided aspherical. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a lot smaller and lighter than the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 (265g, in contrast to 1490g), its diaphragm is composed of 9 blades, while the filter diameter is 52mm.
Via the new converter Sigma MC-11, it will be possible to attach the latest Sigma lenses designed for Canon and Sigma mount on full-frame or APS-C Sony E-mount bodies. What is more, when lenses are mounted by means of this converter, they will be able to use phase detection AF as well as image stabilization. When a Sigma lens is mounted on a body in combination with the MC-11, an elegant LED display on the side of the mount lets Sony users know if the attached Sigma lens is compatible and whether or not the MC-11 needs to be updated for that specific lens. Moreover, the MC-11 communicates EXIF data to the camera body.
The lenses Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary are already available on the market, priced at $1099 and $339, respectively. As for the availability and pricing of the new converter Sigma MC-11, this information will be announced at a later date.
