After a recent introduction of the revolutionary Nikon D810A, the first full-frame DSLR intended for astrophotography, Nikon did not stop there. For the beginning of February, Nikon also prepared 5 compact cameras from the Coolpix series, in which the emphasis is placed on strong zoom - Nikon Coolpix P610, Nikon Coolpix L840, Nikon Coolpix S9900, Nikon Coolpix S7000, and Nikon Coolpix S6900. All these compacts are equipped with 16MP CMOS sensors, Full HD video, and built-in Wi-Fi with NFC for easy connection to smart devices.
The Nikon Coolpix P610 brings a superb 24-1440mm equivalent range lens, and it is the strongest concerning the zoom among the five new models – amazing 60x optical zoom. It features 7 fps continuous drive, GPS, and from the rear are a vari-angle 3” TFT LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder (both are 921,000-dot).
The Nikon Coolpix L840 is characterized by a 23-855 lens with 38x optical zoom, 7.4 fps continuous shooting, it does not feature a viewfinder, while the screen is a 3” 920.000-dot vari-angle TFT LCD.
The Nikon Coolpix S9900 and the Nikon Coolpix S7000 are somewhat slimmer as far as their design is concerned, yet this did not affect the strength of their zooming capabilities by any means. The S9900 boasts a 24-750mm, 30x optical zoom, GPS, a 3” 920.000-dot vari-angle TFT LCD, and 7 fps continuous drive. A viewfinder is not included, however.
The Nikon Coolpix S7000 exhibits a slightly weaker lens and optical zoom from the S9900 – 25-500mm and 20x – but it features stronger continuous drive – 9.2 fps. There is also a fixed 3” 460.000-dot TFT LCD, but there is no viewfinder and GPS.
The Nikon Coolpix S6900 features the weakest lens and optical zoom among the said five cameras, but its optical characteristics are far from being unusable – 25-300 and 12x. On the other hand, the S6900 is the only model among the five that sports a shutter button on the front side, which is highly practical for capturing popular selfies. Continuous shooting is great, 9.0 fps, there is no viewfinder, but it features a fixed 3” 460.000-dot TFT LCD.
All these compacts will hit the stores next month, and their prices will be the following:
- Nikon Coolpix P610 - $449
- Nikon Coolpix L840 - $299
- Nikon Coolpix S9900 - $349
- Nikon Coolpix S7000 - $279
- Nikon Coolpix S6900 - $229
