A month after announcing the GoPro Hero+ LCD, the GoPro Hero4 collection gets a new action camera - GoPro Hero4 Session.
The GoPro Hero4 Session is a waterproof camera with an interesting design - in the form of a cube - and it represents the smallest, lightest, and most convenient action camera produced by GoPro so far - it is half the size of and 40% lighter than the popular GoPro Hero4 Silver and GoPro Hero4 Black, launched last September. With its durable design, it is waterproof to a depth of 33ft/10m, and more importantly, it does not require a separate housing when used underwater. The Hero4 Session features only one button and it is incredibly easy to control, especially if you shoot underwater. A short press of the shutter button quickly powers the camera up and video recording begins automatically. When the shutter button is held longer, the camera switches on and the Time Lapse photo capture is triggered. If you want to save video or photo content, simply press once again the said button; the same goes for powering the camera off.
Although its design differs from the standard, the new GoPro Hero4 Session camera is compatible with existing GoPro mounts. Video is recorded at 1440/30p, 1080/60p, and 720/100p, while photos are the size of 8MP and they are captured in the Single, Burst, and Time Lapse modes. Furthermore, the Hero4 Session shares a large number of innovative features with the Hero4 Black and Silver cameras, among which are the SuperView, Protune, and Auto Low Light recording modes. The camera can be controlled remotely (Smart Remote) and via GoPro App, thanks to Bluetooth and built-in Wi-Fi. What is also interesting is the fact that the battery is built directly into the camera and offers up to two hours of recording time on a full charge. Above all, the Session boasts an innovative dual-microphone system for recording sound, where both microphones are included in the process and sound recording switches between the microphones to reduce wind noise during activities.
For quite some time, GoPro has been working on a cube-shaped action camera, so the GoPro Hero4 Session is undoubtedly the result of that work. This flexible action camera with an interesting design will be available for sale from July 12, and it will be priced at $399.99.
