DJI, the leading company in the field of drones, launched its new top model, DJI Inspire 1. This flying device will include a new camera unit capable of making 12MP photographs, as well record 4K videos. This latest weapon in DJI's armory also brings with itself a brand new gimbal which can be removed at will, and which can be potentially upgraded in the future, if needed.
The camera of the Inspire 1, also known as the X3, encompasses a Sony EXMOR 1/2.3" type sensor, along with an f/2.8 20mm equivalent lens. This lens is composed of 9 elements in 9 groups, one of which is aspherical, and it is equipped with anti-distortion and UV filters as well. The X3 drone captures images in JPEG (12MP) and DNG RAW formats. As for capture modes, the X3 exhibits three of them - single shooting, burst shooting (3/5/7 fps) and time lapse. On the other hand, regarding video, this drone records in HD and UHD 4K (4096 x 2160) at 30 fps.
After the Inspire 1 has taken off, its arms lift up and move out of the way so that they would not obstruct the view of the camera and in order to allow the camera to have a 360-degree view. The weight of this wonder of technology is 2935g, and it can move at the maximum speed of 22m/s (in conditions without wind). The ascent and descent speed are 5m/s and 4m/s, respectively. The maximum altitude that the X3 can reach is 4500m, while it can fly for approximately 18 minutes on a single charge of the battery.
The DJI Inspire 1 comes combined with a separate controller for the camera and gimbal unit. The price of the main unit and a controller is $2899, and it is also possible to order a variation with two controllers, which provide separate control over the drone and the camera/gimbal units. The price of the latter variation totals $3399.
