Today Canon was proud to announce a new, small but powerful, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. This prime lens with a fixed focal length and aperture is aimed at capturing portraits, and as such it will provide its users with images with beautiful background bokeh and subject that are clearly highlighted in relation to the background.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM will continue where its predecessor Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II has stopped, and in comparison to it, the 50mm f/1.8 STM offers the following improvements: a 7-blade circular aperture, which delivers beautiful background blur, the minimum focus distance of only 35cm, which enables the user to approach his/her subjects even more and achieve a greater level of magnification, as well as Canon’s Super Spectra Coating, which does a great job minimizing internal reflections, ghosting, and flare. What is more, the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM also boasts a stepper motor (STM), thanks to which the focusing process will be smooth, almost silent.
This compact lens of exceptionally small dimensions and the weight of only 159g can be easily slipped into any compartment of a bag, which makes it an ideal companion. It is a perfect second lens for all those who wish to bring their creativity to a whole new level, in combination with APS-C EOS DSLR cameras it produces top-notch results when capturing portraits, and thanks to its wide f/1.8 maximum aperture, it is superb when shooting in low-light conditions.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM will hit the shops towards the end of May, and it will be priced at $129.99.
