After adding firmware update for its Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 at the end of the last month, Canon dedicated its attention to its arsenal of external flashes and produced a new Canon 430EX III-RT Speedlite.
The Canon 430EX III-RT Speedlite is the company's second external flash to support radio-based wireless TTL (the 600EX-RT Speedlite being the first one). According to Canon, this type of flash offers longer ranges, more flexible positioning, and no line-of-sight requirement in contrast to traditional optical wireless flash systems. This third-generation Speedlite is designed to make creative light control easier to manage, and it can be controlled using either radio or optical systems. It represents an ideal primary flash unit for amateurs and enthusiasts 'hunting' for portraits with Canon digital cameras, such as the Canon EOS Rebel T6i, whereas professionals can make good use of it as a small and lightweight secondary unit.
In contrast to its more expensive predecessor Canon 430EX II Speedlite, the new 430EX III-RT functions only as a slave. However, its functionality has been improved in relation to the predecessor, so firing is quicker, the recycling time is shorter (4 seconds), while its dimensions and overall weight have been reduced. The rear controls have also been refined, so the LCD screen is now larger, and there is also a new control dial. Aside from being able to tilt upward by 90 degrees, the new Canon 430EX III-RT Speedlite can also rotate 150 degrees towards the left and 180 degrees towards the right. As for the guide number and the zoom flash head range, these values have remained the same as in the case of the predecessor - 43m at ISO 100 and 24-105mm, respectively.
The 430EX III-RT Speedlite boasts 10 custom and 8 personal functions. It should be emphasized that it features an SCF-E2 Color Filter, whose task is to balance color temperature when shooting in incandescent lighting, an SBA-E2 Bounce Adapter, which helps soften light at the same time suppressing shadows, as well as remote shutter release.
The new Canon 430EX III-RT Speedlite external flash will come onto the market in September and its price will be $299.99.
